The 2022 presidential election will be between former prime minister Raila Odinga and deputy president William Ruto. A number of Ruto’s allies have been joining Raila Odinga’s camp lately. These political movements started when both of them started campaigning in central Kenya. The two individuals pull large crowds across the country as compared to the likes of Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka. This attracts upcoming politicians especially those new to politics.

The hand of president Uhuru Kenyatta has influenced the current political landscape in the region. Some people say that Uhuru has lost his influence hence cannot decide any political inclination. The group led by Mathira constituency member of parliament Rigathi Gachagua insist that Raila Odinga is unsellable in Mount Kenya. This has however, been proven otherwise after the ODM party leader started being embraced in Mount Kenya. Currently more than seven governors are supporting his presidential bid.

The approach Ruto and his close allies apply has impacted his popularity negatively. The people which Ruto surrounds himself with are of questionable character. This has made the voters to think twice before commiting his or her vote to Ruto or Raila. The BBI which was the punching bag for Ruto died a natural death in court. Since it’s death Ruto has been unable to craft a new strategy to campaign.

The hustler narrative which resonated well with Kenyans a few months ago has been dying slowly. The people are fed up or it has become a monotony in Ruto’s rallies. The masses are eager to hear new political ideologies and compare them before striking the final decision.

The government machinery led by cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi and principal secretary Karanja Kibicho is working against the deputy president. They are using everything possible under the instructions of president Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure that Ruto does not win the next general elections.
