Many people have the idea that diploma courses are mediocre courses which deserve no credit. There is a mentality that those who do diploma courses are the ones that failed to attain the required grade in high school in order to do a ‘decent’ course in campus. However, this is actually very wrong and misleading. There are very many diploma courses that can secure you a well-paying job.
Here are some reasons why you should pursue a diploma course before taking up a mediocre degree course;
- You are able to secure a high paying job
- Diploma courses provide you with high technical skills
- Are less biased and more reliable
- A chance to pursue your dream course
- Better chance of employment
- Shorter time in school
1. You are able to secure a high paying job
Unemployment in Kenya is a big problem. Many people are well educated but fail to secure a job. In order to save yourself from the risk of unemployment, make sure you choose the right course. Whether it is a degree or diploma course, it actually doesn’t matter as long as you can get a good job. Why stress yourself with a useless degree course that will probably not even land you a job.
2. Diploma courses provide you with high technical skills.
Diploma courses mostly aim to provide learners with the necessary technical skills for jobs rather than theoretical knowledge as in most degree courses. This is a plus since you are far much better in the field than many degree holders.
3. Are less biased and more reliable
Degree courses are quite biased and sometimes less reliable as compared to diploma courses. It is very hard to fake or even get biased marks when it comes to diploma courses.
4. A chance to pursue your dream course
Diploma courses give you a chance to pursue your dream course, if you failed to achieve the grade required for it. For instance, if you were passionate about taking up Engineering as a course, and failed to reach the pass mark, you are able to do it as a diploma course. Even though it is at a lower level, it still is really marketable and reliable.
5. Better chance of employment
Many firms nowadays prefer employing diploma holders to degree holders. This is because, diploma holders are way easier to work with and in most cases even more skilled.
6. Shorter time in school
Diploma courses take shorter time to complete as compared to degree courses. This is an advantage to those who would like to start work earlier.
