Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced promotions of more than 2,400 senior teachers in line with Career Progression for Teachers (CPG).
Secretary Dr Nancy Macharia said the vacancies in the category cover Principals, Deputy Principals, Senior Masters, Head Teachers, Deputy Head Teachers, Curriculum Support officers, Senior Teachers and Senior Lecturers.
The Commission plans to recruit more 1,300 secondary teachers, senior masters, deputy principals, primary teachers, senior teachers, deputy head teachers and head teachers in line with CPG for teachers in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) and hard to staff areas.
“Interested candidates, who meet the required qualifications should submit their applications through the online TSC portal so as to be received on or before September 28. Manual applications will not be considered,” said Macharia in a public notice yesterday.
Among those to be recruited are 53 Chief Principals, 51 Senior principals, 49 principals, 33 deputy principal I and 15 deputy principal II, 233 deputy head teacher II, Senior teacher I and Senior teacher II respectively.
They are required to upload valid copies of letter of appointment to the current grade and responsibility, certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations as well as clearance certificate from Higher Education Loans Board, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Credit Reference Bureau and Kenya Revenue Authority.
At the same time, TSC invited applications for recruitment of 1,995 intern teachers. Macharia said the posts include 1,038 for primary and another 957 for secondary schools.
“The teacher internship is a one year programme meant to equip and sustain competencies of persons entering the teaching service,” said Macharia, in a public notice.
She said the programme targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions, where their teaching experience will be enhanced through mentorship, coaching and exposure to practical teaching experience.
Macharia said teachers attached to primary schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Sh15,000 while those in secondary will receive a Sh20,000 stipend, which will be paid subject to statutory deductions, where applicable.
Upon successful completion of the internship programme, the teachers will be awarded a certificate.
To qualify as an intern teacher, the applicants must be a registered with TSC, a holder of P1 certificate for primary school teachers and a minimum of a diploma in education certificate for secondary school teachers.
They are also required to have original academic and professional certificates and should not have been in previous employment with TSC as a teacher on permanent terms.
The intern teachers must be ready to be posted to any public educational institution in the country and must have a personal accident insurance to cover for personal risks during the internship period.
Once online applications for intern teachers are completed, there will be generation of merit list by County Directors, which will run from September 28 – 30.
The county selection process will then follow from October 8 -15 and the list of successful candidates will be presented to TSC for concurrent vetting.
It will be followed by vetting and handling of complaints at county level between October 21 – 29.
Signing and issuance of internship agreement and offer of internship letters will be done on November 15 – 19. The intern teachers will report to schools on January 3, next year.
