President Uhuru Kenyatta has today granted Nakuru county city status after approval by the national assembly. He had insisted on this during his state of the nation address in parliament buildings. During his speech, he went on to make fun of politicians who have been making haste decisions during campaigns ahead of the anticipated 2022 general elections. From his words, it waa evident that he was dissatisfied with the deputy president William Ruto in his leadership skills as he has been making haste decisions.
He likened the deputy president to a sprint athlete who runs so fast for a short time after which oxygen is depleted and gets stranded along the way. On the other hand, he likened former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to a marathon runner who does so slowly but for a long time and overtakes the sprinter because of fatigue. This came out as humor as it was clear that the president was making fun of the deputy president.
It was evident that the president saw Ruto as a fast runner who will at the end lose because of fatigue. This is by his campaigns that he has been holding regularly across the country publicizing his presidential ambitions ahead of 2022 polls. Compared to Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga who has been conducting lesser political campaigns, Ruto has been exhausting himself with many rallies on a daily basis.
These statements by the president come at a time when the deputy president’s allies have been spreading the word that Ruto is way far ahead compared to Orange Democratic Movement party leader. This is because of the many political campaigns Ruto has beeb holding compared to his rival Raila Odinga. With the president’s statements, there has been stirred reactions about the political grip of the two top presidential aspirants.
