Most universities in Kenya have been offering unapproved courses that are considered invalid by the Commission for University Education (CUE)

According to a 2019 report, the courses being offered illegally in some higher learning institutions include, Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Geography, Political Science, Community Development, Development, Policy Studies and Counseling Psychology.

Unauthorized science courses include; Applied Statistics with Computing, Actuarial Science, Botany, Informatics and Natural Resource Management, Management and Information, Human Nutrition and Diabetics, Public Health and Biochemistry.
