KMTC Thika is adjacent to Thika Level 5 Hospital within Thika Subcounty in Kiambu County.The campus was started in 1969 with 30 students undertaking a certificate in enrolled community nursing with support from the Norway Government.It was built yo train community health nurses at enrolled level giving training in general nursing, midwifery and public health.The graduates served in Kenyan Rural Health Facilities after indipendence.The first group of students were admitted in June 1969 and officially opened by H.E Jomo Kenyatta on 16th November 1969.It was run by a Norwegian between 1966-1973 inclusive of a director and 3 tutors.The first class had 35 students but subsequent intakes increased from 40-50.Upto 1980, only female students were admitted and accomodated in the former director’s house modified to serve the purpose .In 1990 the nursing council introduced a competency based curriculum with intake reduction to 35 per year taking two and a half years of programme completion .In 1995 it started Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing where from then it embarked on agressive expansion programme to a multi faculty training campus .

Clinical experience
The students use Thika Level 5 Hospital, 20 meters from the campus and rural health facilities in and outside Kiambu County for experience.
