kMTC Meru Campus;courses , contacts, location and requirements

KMTC Meru Campus is situated within Meru county approximately 242km from Nairobi city, Nairobi-Meru highway . It is situated one kilometer off Meru Town adjacent to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital. It was established in 1979 as a school of nursing to train enrolled community health nursing. In 1987 the need for expansion arose and the medical engineering school was established to train technicians for maintenance of the hospital equipment.Initially the two schools operated indipendently with funding from the ministry of health.In 1993 the two schools merged to cut down operational costs hence forming KMTC-Meru Campus.In 1999 the nursing department was upgraded to train diploma in  Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing.

The campus is on its move to introduce more market oriented courses  like:

Diploma in pharmacy .

Diploma in community oral health.

Diploma in medical engineering(upgrading)

Certificate in Kenya Enrolled  Community Health Nursing.

The following facilities are used to impact practical skills to the student:

-Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital.

-Kanyakine sub county Hospital.

-Nkubu Mission Hospital.

-Kangeta Health Centre.

-Ruiri Health Centre.

-Nyambene Hospital.

-Maua Methodist Hospital.


-A well equipped library and a computer laboratory.

-Transport I.e a 51 seater bus used to transport  students for practical skills and staff for official duties.

The current population stands at 820 with expectations of rising in the upcoming intake .

Clubs and Societies

The campus participates in the basket ball which the ladies won the national trophy in 2014.Rugby 7’s and 14’s up to national level.Other games include Netball, Volleyball, Football, Badminton, Handball  and Darts.The campus has the following registered clubs:
