Many people have been asking and wondering how to get or access a temporary or in other word a short term paybill number, But don’t worry we have sorted out your worries.

Recently Safaricom  launched an online portal that will allow Kenyans to apply for the short term paybill number for raising emergency funds and contributions.

This temporary/ short term mpesa paybill enables one to do a number of services. Among them are;

fundraise funds for short term needs like 1.Funerals,

2.Weddings,

3.School Fees,

4.Medical bull,

5.Charity and many more

You will be required to provide documentations to justify why you are fundraising.

According to Safaricom Public Limited Company , the temporary pay bill numbers can last up to six months, which is a fairly long time in cases of extended fundraisings such as medical bills or school fees.

The application process can be accessed from a self-help portal. After submitting the necessary documents, applicants can have the number within 24 hours – that is, if the application is accepted.

The Application Process
1. On the self-help portal, customers can see three options: Buy Goods Till, Short Term Paybill, and Business to Customer. Select Option 2 for Short Term Paybill.

2. A new window with a series of categories comes up. Select the purpose of the Paybill number.

For the case if one opts to choose a Medical Fund. The following are the specific details he or she needs to attach during the application process.

Medical fund short term paybill requirements

1. The applicant needs certified hospital admission forms,

2. A copy of the ID,

3. A birth certificate if it is for a minor, and a letter from the bank or cancelled cheque

After following all this steps click APPLY.
The next page is filled with applicant details, validity period, and payment details. You need to fill the starred(*) options and Accept Terms and Conditions.

How to access/ Withdraw Paybill funds

The applicants can access the funds using the suggested Paybill number by dialling *234*4# and following the prompts. The same USSD code includes services such as checking balances and withdrawing funds.

The funds can be withdrawn via cash (MPESA) or from the bank.

Its established that the banks are more convenient since M-PESA has limits and hence cannot afford to transact  huge amounts of money per transaction.

Point to note

Its good for one to note that Registration of the temporary paybill number is free of charge. Customer will be charged when making payments to the till.
