The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut), which had previously objected to a CBA without financial benefits as offered by TSC, is now reversing course and expressing interest in reaching an agreement as long as the suspension is limited to two years.
As pressure increases on the teachers’ unions to accept an agreement without financial benefits, TSC has set a meeting with them for today to discuss the proposed CBA.
While at the Naivasha retreat, KNUT-KE launched a dialogue with the employer and presented a 60 percent compensation proposal.
If the proposal is approved by the employer and the salaries regulatory body SRC, the B5 teachers with the lowest salaries will receive Ksh. 14550 and the B5 teachers with the highest salaries will receive Ksh. 89016 as increments.
Both sides made an agreement at the retreat to start a new conversation about the plan and have it carried out as soon as is practically possible.
