Police in Trans Mara County, are searching for an eighth-grade student from Nkararo Primary School who ran away after punching a working teacher when he was requested to turn in his project.

The teacher, Charles Miruka, has albinism and was hit in the face, according to Willy Korir, secretary of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) in Trans Mara.

In the course of the event, which took place in front of other pupils, he is reported to have bled and misplaced his sunglasses.

Mr. Miruka received treatment and was thereafter released from a nearby hospital, but the student ran away from the school grounds and has not been located.

The KNUT secretary demanded that the suspect, who is claimed to be older than 18, be detained right away.

“We are calling upon the police to immediately arrest the suspect. Why is it when a teacher is wronged no one is taking the matter seriously? We are calling upon the government to give maximum protection to all the teachers in the country” said Mr. Korir.
