After thorough review, the new CBC program was finally launched in Kenya and is currently being practised nationwide. The main aim of this new curriculum is to improve the education in the country for the better. However, there are several challenges that this new education system faces.

Some of these challenges include;

  1. Financial shortages
  2. Shortage of trained teachers.
  3. Lack of resources
  4. Lack of training facilities
  5. Poor infrastructure
  6. Opposition from Kenyans
  7. Student attitudes and behaviors

1. Financial shortages
Lack of enough finances to fund the new curriculum is one of the major challenges facing this new system. This is due to the fact that there is a lot that has to be done for the system to succeed. Starting from the production of new books, training of teachers, it all requires a huge sum of money.

2. Shortage of trained teachers
The number of teachers trained for the new curriculum is quite low, and not enough for all schools in Kenya.

3. Lack of resources
There is a shortage of resources, which include textbooks and machines for the new curriculum in many public schools all over the country. This is mostly due to the large number of students in public schools.

4. Lack of training facilities
Teacher training facilities for the new curriculum are limited. This has resulted to very few number of trained teachers for the curriculum.

5. Poor infrastructure
Many Kenyan public schools lack the basic classroom details such as enough desks or even a decent classroom. This poses a challenge to the new curriculum since the poor infrastructure fails to accommodate it.

6. Opposition from Kenyans
Some people are usually not the biggest fans of change. Many Kenyans trusted the old 8-4-4 system. Therefore, introducing something new and totally different sounds threatening to many.

7. Student attitudes and behaviors
The Curriculum Based Curriculum is new to all students in Kenya. It was first introduced to class four students who are quite young. Kids in public schools usually have different backgrounds and upbringing. As a result, their reaction to a new method of learning is different.
